The deadline for application of schools under the School Milk scheme in the Paying Agency expired. 28 new schools will receive EU funding for the school year 2010-2011. Along with the schools approved for the financial aid in the previous years, the total number of participating schools is 196 and they encompass 33 999 children.
The aid amounts to approximately 0,09 BGN per 250 ml milk equivalent per child per day. The milk offered must meet the EU requirements and be sealed in a disposable container.
In Bulgaria, the European scheme School milk has been applied since the 2008/2009 school year. It aims at developing long-lasting habits of school-age children for consumption of milk and dairy products. The aid targets students who regularly attend one of the following public, municipal or private schools - pre-school, primary and secondary establishments.
Aid is granted for the supply of EU products, purchased in the member country and produced in enterprises that process only raw cow’s milk which complies with Regulation (EC) No 853/2004. The dairy products can be sold in the member states, third countries and the domestic market.
