State Fund Agriculture has concluded contracts for nearly 600 projects for investments in farms under the Rural Development Programme (RDP) 2014-2020. The approved grants for them amount to BGN 256 386 878.
Most of the project proposals approved so far are in the crop sector – 369 proposals or 70% of all processed applications. 27% (142 projects) are in the livestock sector, and the remaining 2% will be executed simultaneously in the two sectors.
The predominant part of the projects in the livestock sector are for the production of raw cow milk, and the investments are aimed at reaching the relevant standards – introducing new technologies in the existing dairy farms, improving buildings and purchasing tillage equipment, so that the farmers can produce enough to cover their own needs. Among the other approved projects: production of goat milk, buffalo milk, organic products (mostly organic honey).
The largest number of projects in the crop sector will help the activities of production in the fruit and vegetables sector. 21% of the approved projects are submitted by farms undergoing transition to organic production and 12% are directed to the production of essential oils and medical products, which is a prioritised area.
